Winter Style: Kyra’s Picks
We recommend that you go for an all white long sleeve dress or an all white blouse and skirt set with the boots, if you can.
Artist Spotlight: Plain Dave
ÉS is back with yet another Artist Spotlight post. This week we’re exposing you all to Plain Dave, a fresh face to Chicago rap. Dave says his sound is a fresh breath from the usual Chicago music. "Its HIP HOP influenced by that inner city Chicago lifestyle."
We wanted to get to know him a little more so we asked a couple questions:
ÉS: What made you want to start rapping?
PD: I’ve been writing since I was a shordie In like 7th grade, but It wasn’t until recently about 7 months ago that I started taking it serious and actually getting “out there” and recording. I released a track called “ILL MINDED" and people really f*cked with that song and I just kept going back recording.
PD: Of course the Hip Hop greats influenced me like Nas, Biggie, A Tribe Called Quest, JAY Z, Eminem, Souls of Mischief, Tupac, Big Pun, NWA, Big L, and a lot of 90’s underground rap groups. At the same time, my homies that rap and other Chicago artists influence me a lot because watching them progress gives me more ambition & fuel to keep going.
PD: My style fashion wise would be simple not flashy, very casual and comfortable. I like the urban look.
He recently dropped a new track entitled Soulville Marauder that he says was inspired by ambition, drive, and experience.
If you like what you heard, he is dropping a tape called Soul Tales (As mentioned in his Four Stars Chicago freestyle). Although there is no specific date for the tape yet, keep up with him on Twitter: @PlainDave777
Thanksgiving Style: Erin’s Picks
Winter Essentials: Erin’s Picks
My picks for this winter are all staple, but essential pieces. The faux snake skin leather hoodie is everything and more. Pretty pricey, but worth it. Hoodies are timeless and leather won’t be going out of style anytime soon. You can find it HERE.
Now, Every girl MUST have a pair of velvet leggings in their possession. They’re possible the softest, most comfortable item someone can own. These come in two colors, burgundy and black. You can find them HERE.
The gold hardware on this black beanie does all the talking. Statement hats just might be a new trend. You can find it HERE.
Designer or Dupe: Boots
For the second edition of Designer or Dupe, we’ve decided to feature two very popular style of boots at the moment. Cut outs with buckles and chelsea boots. There have been many imitations of the real, but only a few dupes are good enough to make the cut.
Here we have the infamous Jeffrey Campbell Coltrane. These boots have been seen everywhere on everyone. While they are a very unique style boot, don’t be against the idea of getting a pair. The price isn’t too bad, but some of us just don’t have the money. Luckily an almost identical pair can be found for only $46 HERE.
The Comet Leather Chelsea Boots by Acne have been popping up everywhere. It’s a pretty simple boot, yet very sleek, which makes it understandable as to why it’s become such a hot commodity. For those of you who lust and daydream over these $630 boots, you can get a very similar pair for more than half the price HERE.
Black & Gold
I’ve recently ordered some sweaters for the season and this one is by far my favorite. The quilted texture is very popular this fall and is represented fairly in this sweater. It is rather boxy, but it’s just extra room which is always a plus…usually. As for jewelry, all I wore was an intricate vintage gold link chain and black and gold earrings. Skip to shoes, these black ankle boots with gold detailing are in my top 5 best purchases. Completely on trend and versatile.
Artist Spotlight: Logan
ÉS hasn’t featured an artist on here in a while. But we had the experience of watching Logan’ s visual for his latest release In the Light, directed by JKrown, and knew we had to have him on here.
With past hit tracks such as Came Up, it’s hard to miss this guy.The mononymous rapper, Logan, is a prime example of the talent flowing throughout Chicago. Although, you still feel the sense of uniqueness in his music,
"I’m still finding my sound. I think what separates me from other Chicago artists is that I’m never afraid to take risks or stress how I’m really feeling in my music. Also, I’m not afraid to be different and go out of my comfort zone. I like the challenge you feel me?" Logan explained.
Being a fashion blog, we of course had to know about his style, ”I don’t know what I would describe it as I just dress how I feel. I like wearing all black a lot and I like rockin’ chucks. I look like where I’m from I guess.”
As far as his video, Logan’s Director and Filmographer JKrown perfectly captured the essence and theme for “In the Light”. “ I was just tryna keep it simple n break down some sh*t happenin’ in my life. I wanted to make somethin’ different, the track came together very smooth. So we kept the feel for the video.”
"In The Light is honestly just a taste. We have way better sh*t in the works and different sh*t. People will see when my project drops. The production on it is ridiculous and Flight made every beat."
Keep on the lookout for Logan; we promise this isn’t the last you’ll be hearing about him. Follow his twitter @FeoMob_
WInter Essentials: Kyra’s Picks
It’s time to trade in those sun hats for beanies ladies. This versatile skully is a Ying Yang hat from the up and coming urban clothing line, Married to the Mob.
Every girl needs that trusty jumper to throw on for those colder than usual days. Dress it up with accessories and leather leggings with your favorite boots, or dress it down with jeans and UGGs.
Earmuffs are sooo underrated in my eyes, they keep your ears nice and toasty without interfering with your hair too much. Grab one in every color!
Usually I wouldn’t dare buy an animal print piece, but this all over bird print shirt stood out. I opted for a pair of dark wash jeans because they complement and contrast each other so well. After that point, I noticed my outfit was a little too simple for my liking. I grabbed my new favorite loafers, which I raved about in our first haul, and a couple rings to finish the job. I topped this look off with my leather jacket (not pictured) due to weather and for that extra cool-chic vibe.

Fire & Ice: Making A Summer Dress Look Good for Fall/Winter
Due to the recent wave of cold weather I know you’re thinking it’s over for all those cute summer dresses, but don’t give up hope yet! You can easily convert a summer look into a winter one, and here’s a perfect example. This dress may look a little familiar because I featured it in our first haul video. The spunky dress comes from Missguided and the chic boots come from Urban OG; I topped everything off with a leather jacket from H&M.
This outfit is perfect for that snippy weather and is surely not hard to duplicate, grab one of your favorite summer dresses and add a few fall pieces and watch the magic happen!
Kate Moss x Topshop: Spring 2014
Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green
You would have to have been living under a rock if you haven’t heard the news about Kate Moss creating a new collection with Topshop. If you were, we’ll fill you in. Here’s a little background information: back in 2007, Kate collaborated with Topshop with a very successful line. It was so successful, it lasted 3 years.
Now in 2013, 3 years after the lasts collection ended, we were delighted with the news that she is back with a new line. Moss has been working with stylist Katy England and Topshop creative director Katy Phelen. Kate says, “I am very excited to create a new collection that bears my name. Now more than ever, with London being at the forefront of fashion, as it feels like I’m back home working with Topshop.”
The line is said to have 40 pieces including womenswear, accessories, and footwear. Be on the look out for this line when it drops worldwide and online in the Spring of 2014.
M.I.A x Versus Versace
You probably have been seeing a lot of this classic print. That’s because believe it or not; tartan, better known as plaid, is back! A few years prior, tartan was being shown in a more “geek” look. This time around it’s taking on a grungier feel. Pair your plaid pieces with leather, lace, mesh, and a pair of boots to give off that cool, dark vibe. Transitioning from day to night is made easy with this trend, try it yourself!
This past weekend we went to our homecoming, this year we played it pretty safe. Enjoy our looks!
